Shittybank Strikes Yet Again.

As of this writing, there is yet another double payment as 'inspired' by shittybank. I was already kinda suspicious on the late charges for January that I saw a few days ago, so finally tonight I logged in to check, and yes, another double payment, and late charges since the last double payment they made me do.

I'm going to call them and ask them to explain every transaction to me. My accountancy is a fail by the way.

The Flight of Dragons.

Was reading a thread on SPUG when I came across someone mentioning the Flight of Dragons. Now that brought back quite some memories and I just had to go to youtube and see what they had on this.

They had the entire movie there!!

I love this animated movie. Dragons and magic, what more can I ask for?? Oh, tall elves would be nice, not short ones.

Love the music and the way they played the story out. Some sad scenes (Smrgol!) and melancholic ones like when Carolinus talks about how the Dome of Invisibility will protect the Last Realm of Magic.... "Go, and you may never return to the magic realm. For even now, the great dome of invisibility grows over our world to protect it's sanctity for all time and no one on the outside may enter it's boundaries, save for the length of a dream or a flash of an inspiration. But it will stay through the years and the centuries and the ages, a part of man for all time. And whenever man needs magic, we will be here."

Enjoy!

Sky of Love

My friend initially didn't want to watch this as she felt that she would cry too much. Well, that's a bad way to miss a great movie, imho.

Anyways we finally managed to get to watch this show. Nice. The storyline may be a bit long in the toth, but the movie is nice in general with great music and wonderful cinematography. I like the way a lot of the shots are done.

The movie opens with a girl (Mika) reminiscing about her love which began seven years ago, when she lost her mobile phone in the school library. It was picked up by one of her schoolmates (Hiro) and from there, they started chatting over the telephone and eventually, dating.

Not all is pretty in the relationship as there is a jealous ex-girlfriend (Saki) involved here. Saki gets people to kidnap and rape Mika, and Hiro stands up for her and beats up the offenders. When Mika gets over the trauma, she finds that she is pregnant with Hiro's baby, The both of them are ecstatic and Hiro decides to quit school and work to support Mika and the baby.

Upon hearing of Hiro's decision to quit school, Saki confronts Mika and pushes her down some stairs. This causes an miscarriage and both of them are devastated at the loss of their baby. Hiro makes a promise that both of them will visit the place where they commemorate their lost child every year on the day they lost their baby, which is Christmas Eve.

When the new school year opened, Hiro started growing distant from Mika. Finally Hiro initiates a break up. Mika is devastated and never really gets over it. Every year, Mika visits their baby and finds that Hiro has already visited their baby too. On the third year that she visits, she realises that Hiro is terminally ill.

Old storyline, but beautiful movie.

Evangelion 1.0 : You Are (Not) Alone

I have never watched a single episode of Evangelion ever before but I enjoyed this movie. Watched the 1915hrs session at The Cathay after a nice high tea session with another friend. Almost didn't make it to the start cos my friend though it was 1950, not 1915. lol.

The movie is supposed to cover about six episodes for each movie (There is a total of four movies). Apparently, there are some changes to the movie version. I guess they will make it more, marketable in terms of storyline maybe?

A boy named Shinji is brought to Nerv and asked to pilot the EVA Unit-01. He initially refuses, but upon seeing an injured Rei trying to pilot Unit-01, he agrees. His maiden task is to fight the fourth angel. Now being a non Eva fan I have no idea where the angels come from but I guess they are just out to destroy the world. I still enjoy the show, as this brings an element of mystery, which i like in watching stuff. He manages to get trough this first fight and throughout the movie, he pilots the Eva to fight 2 more of the angels.

As it turns out, it seems that what is happening to Shinji and Rei does not happen by chance. It seems to be a carefully scripted life.......... which I guess we non fans will get to find out over the next 3 movies, or if we go and watch the original anime.

Definitely a movie to catch, and something to kill yourself over, if you're an otaku and missed this.

I love the music.

Game Boy Micro (Famicom Version)

So I spied this item on my current favourite video games site.

Game Boy Micro (Famicom Version)

After conversion to Singaproe dollars, I think I will be paying about $86 for this baby. I bought it quite impetuously, I must say. It's such a cute item and it's on a weekly special until Tuesday!!

Now I need to figure out how to charge this Gme Boy Micro, it's a JP version and will come with a JP charger.. I don't think I can use the charger that comes with it as it will probably burn...

Can't wait for this little baby to arrive.

A Tale of Two Emails

On the 11th of March, I opened my email and noticed an email titled "Eye e City 2007: Essay Contribution (Group 3.2)". I opened it up and they were asking for essay contributions for the
Eye e City 2007 Book that they will be publishing soon.

Since I was of the opinion that my photo submissions would not be selected, I felt that this was a good opportunity for my to contribute something to Eye e City 2007 and also to get some writing practice in.

The very next day, I received another email. This time, it was titled "Eye e City 2007: Finalists (Group 3)". I didn't really think about what the title meant, but the content was enough to make me give a squeal of joy!

Dear Eye Participant,
Congratulations! Your work(s) has/have been selected by Eye e City 2007.
As Singles, Essays or Challenge, your work will appear in our new publication, which will be launched in early August 2008, together with a public exhibition.
As it is logistically impractical for us to spell out to each of you which image(s) has been selected, we seek your kind understanding in this matter.
For news of our activities, do visit our website.
We hope every one of you is doing well in the Year of the Rat!
EyeCheers!

However, after I read the email, I started thinking about what if it was a mis-sent email? That would be so disappointing! So far, I have yet to receive another email on the matter so I guess it's all good. Now I wonder which photo was selected.

Even though there are no prizes for this event, I am glad that I have participated in it.

10,000 BC

Watched this with my friend and I thought it was a pretty nice show to watch.

It's basically a show about the fulfillment of prophecies and the ending of slavery.

The show opens with the Old Mother of a hunting tribe that seems to be falling onto hard hunting times making a prophecy about a girl (Evolet) that has arrived into their tribe. That she heralds the coming of the 4 legged demons and that the person she marries shall be the one to liberate them and give them all a future where they no longer need to hunt for food.

There is a boy (D'Leh) who likes her and promises to be with her forever. They both grow up and the girl is set to be the wife of whoever kills the mammoth in the Last Hunt. D'Leh becomes this person but soon after, slave raiders come to the tribe and take away their tribesmen which includes Evolet.

D'Leh then begins a journey to rescue his love. This journey is leads him to find other civilisations and prophecies.

This show is pretty nice, but one mustn't expect logic. I like the fantastical setting that the movie is in, what with prophecies and all. It was odd that they were speaking English with some odd accent but I guess that makes it easier to watch the movie.

I mainly like this movie for the music.

Probably not one of your must watch movies but a nice one for people who don't mind illogical movies.

RAM Upgrade

I have been talking about upgrading my PC's RAM for so long, but I never really got around to it. I finally did it today.

I had bought 2 pieces of DDR PC400 1GB RAM during the IT show, but had not wanted to do the upgrade on sunday as I had a few events going on. Didn't want any screwups to be compounded.

So I pulled my CPU down and opened it up. WHOA. DUST BUNNIES!!

Looked for my old RAM and pulled that out. Was really pleased to see that it said the exact same thing as my new RAM PC400 DDR etc etc, except that it was 512MB and my new ones are 1GB.

Happily plugged the new RAMs in, dusted off some of the dust that I thought was safe to remove. Sorted out some of the old USB connections that were left on my PC and would not be used anymore. Receonnected all the cables and ecsatatically pushed the 'ON' button.

CPU started running super silently. I was like whoa so that's what a little dusting off does! Nope! next thing I hear a series of beeps. Crap. One long and two short. I google it with my iBook and it say video problem. CRAP.

Posted a help post on SPUG and SMS'ed my friend. Hey it's an emergency. I can fire off help messages in any number of venues I want.

Anyways... my friend and the people on SPUG told me to recheck the RAM connections, which I did and the annoying beeps persisted. I was then told to remove one of the RAMs. So I removed the piece that was placed in the previously unused slot.

Now the system works.

My friend then told me to try putting the other RAM into another slot. I had previously asked him what that slot was for. It looks exactly like a RAM slot but is differently coloured. I guess it's a RAM slot too. Wondering why it's coloured differently.

And finally, the result of that test is that I am now posting this blog post with 2GB of RAM.

Yay!!!

I have yet to see the effects though lol. FFXI is down for maintenance, will have to wait for it to be up. Gonna try out the lagfest events.

The Leap Years

I wanted to watch this show on the 29th of February, and I kind of did. I watched the session that started at 2350, 29th February.

First off, I think this is a really simple movie, but it is very nice and sweet in it's own simple way. I have never read the book so I do not know how true to the book this movie adaptation is.

Simply, this movie is about the love story of a couple, played out over 4 leap years. The girl propositions the guy. Not THAT kind of proposition. She just asks the guy for a date, since it's an Irish tradition that a guy must agree to a girl's proposal on the 29th of February or he may be fined.

Well, the guy accepts and they have a jolly time together. The day is over and he must leave, but he promises that every 29th of February, they will meet at the same place, at the same time.

While watching this show, I do wonder how many real life couple will be able to endure what they have gone through. Especially after what happened during the third leap year. It's quite a miracle after that!

I liked this show. It's the first Singaporean movie I have watched in the theatres and I am not regretting it.

L: Change the World

Actually decided to go and watch The Leap Years with my friend, but we could only get tickets to that show at 2350hrs. My friend said that she would fall asleep if she had to wait that long with nothing to do... so I suggested watching L before The Leap Years! Anyway I wanted to watch L.

This show is a spin off from the Death Note series, and while it is helpful to have watched the Death Note movies, it is entirely not necessary to have watched them. This movie is about L. Not the Death Note.

For those who have watched the Death Notes, you would know that L had written his own name in the Death Note in order to prevent Kira from killing him with the Death Note. As such he only has a limited amount of time to live. 23 days to be exact.

In L: Change the World, L continues solving cases without Watari. As required by the script, he comes across a big case involving a virus. He races to solve the case as timers are ticking, both for himself and for the virus.

I enjoyed this show as it was amusing watching the antic of L as he goes about his activities in that peculiar way of his. I think Death Note made L a superstar, Light / Kira is just a supporting actor in that respect. There were also multiple moments where you think that this guy is just impossibly smart. Well theoretically, you would be right since everything is scripted. I still enjoy this intelligence exhibited by L.

The movie definitely has it's amusing moments. You just chuckle at the little things L does. Oh, and I did not expect a coda at the end of the movie. I was just sitting there enjoying the show. I had actually entertained the thought of leaving as the credits rolled since I was having a bad tummyache at during the last 5 mins of the movie (regrettable). Till this day, I still fail to see what was so amusing about the last line that appeared in the coda.

Do not highlight this to see the line if you do not want a spoiler.
L rests in peace

Once that line came out, some people laughed. I guess it has to do with the fact that the chinese translation was "L安详的睡着". I thought that was quite a sad moment... but.. well, different people interpret things differently.

Overall, I think this is a great movie to watch, especially for all L Lawliet fans!

Back Into The Rat Race

So I was out in Indonesia for 5 days. I'm back now.

First thing, I guess I still haven't learnt my lesson from before. Look at my previous post. Look at that picture of the cute chocobo strap. And the Moogle Strap. It's currently OUT OF STOCK on the website!!!! I did NOT order it!!!!

I hope it gets back in stock.

Anyways, had a pretty nice 5 days in Karimun. Every chinese I met there could speak Teochew. Apparently one of the people that went with me keeps hearing people speak Hokkien but I did not hear a single person speak Hokkien. Probably a case of mistaken identity of the language. Alot of people apparently cannot tell Teochew from Hokkien. Noobs.

I probably spoke more Teochew to strangers there than I have all my life in Singapore. It was also a surprise when I called back on the first day there, and when my mum realised I was in Tanjung Balai, she said :"Oh! That's where my maternal grandmother came from! We have relative there!"

Great and just after I told people I only have relatives in China. Not in Malaysia like others. Hahah.

The kicker comes when I get home. I was talking about this restaurant in Moro, where they keep a pair of otters.... when my dad goes... "Mo Hor??"

I say :"Moro lah, 45 mins by ferry from Balai"

He says :" Yeah yeah correct! We call it Mo Hor or Sua Buey. I stayed there for some time when I was young."

Mum says :" Oh your mum was there performing huh? Maybe my relatives saw her!"

Dad says :" We have relatives there too!"

GREAT.

So it was a trip to my roots. Huh?? Tell me first next time leh!! Then again I didn't really know the exact locations till like a few days before leaving and so only told my mum I was going to Karimun.

Loved the trip cos of all the Teochew though.

Bought yummy home made Kueh Lapis from Balai. Oh and the Mi Jiang Kuey there is so lovely. It's called Apong Balik and when I told my mum that she says that she heard about from her grandma!! It has fillings that you can choose from, peanut, chocolate, corn with coconut, Bulur Hitam and cheese. It's gonna be like the thing I miss in Balai, just like the Donuts in Tioman and the glutinous rice rolls in Hong Kong.

Yummy.

Guess I survived pretty ok with my horrible Malay because I could use Teochew or Mandarin most of the time. I used to be able to speak Malay because I used to have Malay neighbours. I can't anymore because I have not used it for 20 years. Now I only know a few words here and there... apart from the starting sentences in the Malay readers I used to like so much.

Saya bangun pagi-pagi
Saya cuci muka dan gosok gigi
Saya makan roti dan minum kopi

And my all time favourite

Jangan bising-bising, saya nak tidor

:D
