The I is Greater Than the We

Dear reader of my blog, you would know that I always gripe. And gripe. And grip some more. Anyways, I got to thinking, how 'ethical' would it be if one were to uphold the 'principal' of their behaviour, if it works to the detriment of others?

Is it an excuse? Is it being obstinate?

The I will always be greater than the we. People will always think of themselves first. Why should anyone modify their behaviour in order to not sabotage other people?

It is also sad when you see people according the highest level of trust to someone they should NOT. To someone who stabs them in their backs. To someone who works to get them out of the system. To someone who withholds credit to their name.

In case you are wondering, the person I speak of is not myself. However, I may be in the same shoes and just not realise it myself.

Orchard Hotel Buffet

Ooh. Went out to have a buffet with my colleagues/ex colleagues. The location: Orchard Hotel.

I didn't have a very good impression of it as I had a buffet there once before and I did not remember that the had a very good variety.

Today, was amazing. It still does not beat the best Hotel Buffet I had (at a hotel along beach road) but it was pretty darn good.

By the time we were full, we hadn't had everything that we could have eaten. And this is by my standards. Me. The picky eater. There was even a BBQ section out in the foyer of the hotel where the smoke will not affect the diners. I love the BBQ section. Bratwurst anyone? How about CHEESY Bratwurst!?

Of course, the price wasn't cheap. The buffet cost each of us approximately $44 after an 18% disc (UOB credit Card).

Admission is Liberation

So today I did something I didn't really think I would do. I proclaimed in a meeting (of peers of course no bosses involved, I'm not THAT kamikaze yet) that I am sure I would not get another contract and that I know where I am going to. Till now, I don't know if I will get another contract but it is fair to assume that one does not get a contract, until one signs on the contract.

The good systems are in place, but whether they have been enforced is another issue.

I told some people about what my plans are after I leave this job. Of course initially, thinking about leaving this job is scary. When you've been in a job for years, you get rooted, cosy and highly resistant to changes. However, it is inevitable and rather than be caught by surprise, we should prepare ourselves accordingly. No one is going to take care of us but ourselves. We don't owe anyone our livelihood.

I found that after I started telling people, I felt so much more liberated. Freedom. Whether the plans pan out or not is irrelevant. I feel less bound by the worries of not getting a contract.

I think I can say that I starting to mood liao~!

We Pay Tax What!

Someone commented today that we should not bother to save resources used at work as "our parents pay tax so we must use the money's worth!"

I find that this is a very common mindset amongst people within the organisation and of course I mentioned that wouldn't it be counter productive, if we 'fully utilised' the budget and the government finds that the budget was barely enough and thus decides to raise taxes further?

Of course, the following will be a very narrow spectrum thought of mine where it is assumed that office resources lead to increase and decrease of taxes ( which it obviously isn't)

Naturally, the answer I get is that taxes will not go down if we do not use the resources anyway. While this may be true, and we can do nothing about current tax rates nor hope that tax rates will go down, isn't it possible that if the budget is under utilised then the tax rates will not be increased further? A knife cuts both ways.

Speaking of which, it's time to once again file your income tax and do your due duty as a citizen.

Crossover To New Blogger!

Yes, I have reached the end of the line for the old blogger system. I had not transferred my account so far due to the initial problems that were reported on the new blogger system. However, today, as I logged into Blogger to update my blog, it gave me no choice but to upgrade my blog.

However, I do see a silver lining to this. Perhaps I shall finally be rid of the accursed page size / word limit that plagues me from free expression! (Ok, my expressions are not really free but you get my point and get out of my hair!)

Been wanting to reformat the template so that I can post from email and have everything look the same with a title. I am currently formatting the title separately in blogger, not using the title bar, so when I blog from email, I either do not have a title, or the title is default - humongous. I shall so need to settle that little issue.

That's all I have for now. Laters, alligators.

The Blog Takes A Cut

In line with my own personal opinion of the fact that nothing on the net stays private the way you wanted it to be (e.g., unseen by certain people you don't want), I have deleted a couple of posts. Some may have escaped for now but I will delete them when I get around to seeing them.

These were mostly typed when I was seething with 'emotions' and have already served their purpose.
