Chugging On A Train.
Well, I might have posted this before but yeah, the thought came into my mind again recently.
I'm thinking about taking a train up to Bangkok.
I used to have thoughts of taking a train around Europe.. though I have not completely given up hope on that one, I have to admit that it takes both time and money that I don't have at the present moment. I don't think it quite possible for me to take 4-5 weeks off work.
Anyway, so I was surfing up on train trips... and I figured I could so totally get a train trip from Singapore to Bangkok done. It's short and it's not that expensive. I could also stop off along the way and visit places. It could so totally be a primer to great train trips too!
The Plan:
Leave Singapore to Kuala Lumpur via the night sleeper train (2215 est). Will reach KL in the morning (0656 est) and thus get some time to walk around KL for a little bit.
Option: Stay a night in KL.
Option: Take the day train to KL. Reach KL in late afternoon (1540 est)
Leave KL (2100 est) to Butterworth (0550 est) on evening train . Pop over to Penang by ferry if time permits.
Option: Stay a night in Penang.
Leave Butterworth (1420 est) and proceed towards Bangkok. Stop at Nakhom Pathom (0850 est) station to connect to a train headed for Kanchanaburi (0853 est) There is only 3 mins transit time !!!! Next one is at 1436 hrs reaching Nam Tok at 1830 >.< Essentially stuck there for the night. This train will proceed along the Bridge over River Kwai. Stop at Nam Tok station and visit Hellfire Pass.
Trick is that there is only 3 hours to spend in Nam Tok (Last train departs Nam Tok at 1515). Or else need to find accomodati0n for the night.
Also not sure at the moment if Hellfire Pass is easily accessible from Nam Tok station or need to hire transport to get there.
Alternative: Leave Butterworth (1420 est) and arrive in Bangkok. Pick a saturday or sunday to leave Bangkok (0630 !!!! ) for Nam Tok on the weekend train which stops in Nam Tok at 1135hrs. On the trip back to Bangkok, take the regular train that departs Nam Tok station at 1515 instead of the weekend train that departs at 1440. Gain about 40mins at Nam Tok.
Depart Bangkok on flight. Train if I forget to bring my psychiatric meds. Or maybe take the train down the east coast of Malaysia this time! Extreme! So? Anyone wants to come?
By the way... currently Tiger Airways one way ticket from Bangkok to Singapore is about SGD32 excluding taxes. I checked rates for November weekday.

Singnet Disappoints
I've had this comment on my MSN for a few days now. 'Singnet Disappoints'.
Some people wonder why I say that. It's definitely linked to the ODEX fiasco. I have always been a loyal supporter of Singnet. Alot of people tell me that Singnet has poor customer service, lousy this, horrible that. Still, I always tell people that I will stick with Singnet.
Looks like I may be eating my words. For those of you keeping up with the ODEX issue, it has come to light that ODEX won the court order for subscriber information to be released from the Singnet database... by Singnet's consent.
I had previously thought that Singnet had no choice because a court order was served on them. I even went so far as to tell people that it is a 'bo bian case'. That was until it was revealed that Singnet didn't even bother to send a lawyer to fight the case. What Singnet did was sit on their laurels and wait for ODEX to go through the formality of obtaining a court order so that they can officially release the information and tell their subscribers that they were ordered to do so by the court of law.
Can you feel the anguish I felt when I read the damning revelation in Judge Ernest Lau's written judgement?
Is this what we, Singnet subscriber's deserve? We who choose to be with Singnet? Who tell people I like Singnet because I play MMOs and ADSL works better for me? Who always wanted to just stick to one ISP? Who has used Singnet since we ever had a PC? Who even when the internet connection goes to the dogs, firmly believe that tomorrow will be a better internet connection day?
Oh, if one spends time trolling around the internet, it is easy to find all kinds of statements over Singnet's behaviour.
On CNET Asia, Nicholas Aaron Khoo says:
What a PR disaster! And the best part of it is, SingNet is still quiet about it while the entire blogosphere is going crazy over it. A quick scan around the Net and you will find mounting displeasure over SingNet's attitude toward this whole issue.

Subjective Opinion
I was just looking at the Tarot Card Test post that I had posted on Monday and I got to thinking about how that card was a lucky card. Of course, I'm glad to have gotten that card but do I really think I am lucky?
That's where I thought about it and I realised that being lucky (or not) is quite subjective. It is really what you make of it. One thing can happen and depending on how you decide to look at the issue, it can turn out to be lucky or unlucky. This will of course lead to happiness or unhappiness.
It's just like when people ask me if I have regretted choosing my current job. To be quite honest, while I sometimes do think that perhaps I should have chosen other courses in school, chosen other jobs etc or maybe that I should change jobs in future, I have never regretted choosing this job. It is this job that has led me to what I am now, for better or for worse. It is this job that let me experience things that I doubt I would have otherwise (though it's not to say that I would not have even more kickass experiences elsewhere).
See? It's all in your mind how you look at things. Everything can be good or everything can be bad. Make it good.

Beat Him Up And Burn His House.
Odex Company Director Stephen Sing is very distressed. He has been threatened with being beaten up and having his house burnt.
Now guys. Gotta play nice ok? It's one thing to express displeasure but quite another to threaten with physical violence.
On a lighter note, the current joke going around is that it may have been a misunderstanding caused by this photo posted by forumers in jest. Yes, that means it was a joke. Quite an in-joke among the circles actually and this photo has been recycled so many times anyway.
