Back to School. Again.
Yup, I know many of my friends are just simply confused about what I am studying. In fact, when they ask me how my studies are, I will invariably ask them which one?
I had just started my Adv Dip in Nursing course on the 18th of Oct. It's back to my Alma Mater after all these years but all I can say is that this time, I have been aggravated so much, the slightest little provocation can draw great ire from me. Anyways, let's just hope things get better from now.
1st week of my Adv Dip course and I am more broke than when I was working. Of course, one of the main causes is the brand spanking new HTC Desire phone that I had bought since I am now free to carry a camera handphone for the next 8 months. That set me back a good $298.
Also had to pay for the uniforms since we would have field visits and attachments. We had a choice of pant suit or dress. I picked the dress option since it was only $35 per piece. The pant suit option would have cost $70. So for uniform, I paid $105. I would also need to buy some new shoes to go with it.
I haven't bought any textbooks yet, but if I did that would cost me easily around $300. I'm too broke to afford that now and I don't know if I can claim the textbook expenses (my colleague had trouble it seems) so I won't be buying any if I can help it.
I no longer get free lunches now. Well, come to think of it, I usually don't eat the free lunch anyway so it shouldn't make that much of a difference. However, my meal expenditure is still increased due to the greater variety of food available. We really can't have our cake and eat it...
Also, so far I believe I have already contributed about $40 to photocopy fees. So many notes to pay for, I wonder how many trees we have killed in the first week alone. Not to mention that they seem to expect us to have a laptop or a netbook. To be clear, lessons are not very electronic. It's still very much paper based but it seems like a laptop or netbook is expected. Don't ask me why. I don't think that buying a netbook or laptop for this course is a good idea because it is only required for watching some videos which they have put on the intranet instead of the internet. I will never understand why I supposedly cannot watch the videos from home. Luckily, I have a netbook that was given to me by Singnet, so I don't have to spend money on this.
I'm also concurrently doing my degree in SIM. It's really crazy now. Some days I have 10 hours worth of classes... it's really terrible. Additionally, I informed my Adv Dip coordinator of my degree exams dates and she asked me to postpone my exams. I just asked her how I should go about doing it.
Unfortunately, if push comes to shove and I have to miss my exams to clock my attendance for the Adv Dip, then I shall have to do that since the Adv Dip is sponsored but the degree is self paid.
Let's see how things goes.
