First Lessons Over!
And so, I guess I have stepped into another phase of life. I guess I could call myself a part time Uni student now? It's not NUS or NTU but it's still something of an upgrade to what I had previously. Whether this upgrade will turn out to be useful or not will be another thing entirely. Who knows, this piece of paper that I may earn might turn out to be totally useless.
My very first lesson was was conducted last Friday. Like I said, it's not NTU nor NUS but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said that I did not feel the slightest twinge of excitement as I walked through campus to look for my lecture theatre. We had rather small numbers for the LT though. I believe there are at least two tutorial groups for the module (Understanding English Grammar) and we have a fair number of students from the English Language and Literature course joining us. Grammar didn't seem so bad after all in the first lesson.
Yesterday was a Chinese module. Chinese reading and comprehension (中文阅读与鉴赏). Seriously, after I applied for my 4 modules this semester, I began wondering whatever I had gotten myself into. 3 Chinese modules in a semester can't be that good an idea since I haven't done much Chinese writing since my 'O' Levels.
The lesson was kinda challenging because our tutor would pose questions that you could only answer if you had been reading Chinese Literature. You don't even have to be an avid reader but you just had to at least have some surface knowledge. Yet, that is not as worrisome as the assignment that we have coming up.
The assignment is supposed to be due on the 15th of Aug. It covers Unit 1,2,3 and 4 . Last night, we covered Unit 1. The tutor said we also covered a bit of Unit 4 but the thing is, the assignment is due the day after the 2nd session. I have no clue how we are going to cover all 4 units by the next session and complete the assignment the day after... but I guess there is no choice.
The only consolation that I have is that the next modules that I have coming up are English modules. I don't think they will be easy either but at least I don't have to wonder how to write the words.
It's all quite exciting. I hope this excitement will bring me along further. Many a times we choose not to do certain things because we expect failure. I know that very well. If you never did it, you can't have failed it right? I had so much more to talk about this thought, but I don't want to rush out the words. Perhaps someday I shall sit and type it all out.
For now, I shall think about the classes that I need to attend!
